PERIMETER WALK

IN THE FOOTSTEPS...

Each summer the Airborne Museum organizes tours of the battlefield. You can walk through the area where the Allies beat off the fierce German attacks for five days, and stand on the bank of the Rhine, where more than 2,000 British and Polish troops managed to withdraw – just. If you take the northern Perimeter Route, you can also visit the Airborne Cemetery.

An experienced guide you will lead you through the beautiful and now peaceful countryside. We suggest you visit the museum and the Airborne Experience, and then go on the walk, during which the guide will point out what remains of the battle. What you see and hear will give you goose bumps.

The Friends of the Airborne Museum also organize tours of battlefields (see ‘Airborne diary’) in the Ardennes, Normandy and elsewhere. They are truly worthwhile experiences, as they provide a striking picture of the Allied advance.

The Arnhem-Nijmegen Liberation Route is a must, as you will experience what happened here in 1944 and 1945. Along the route there are 23 boulders where you can listen to moving stories. You can also listen to them on an MP3 player provided (along with aerial maps) by the Airborne Museum.
