The two dioramas in the museum show two scenes from the history of Hartenstein. One diorama shows Major-General R.E. Urquhart in his headquarters, and the other shows a medical post under the command of Lieutenant D.M. Randall.
Both Urquhart’s headquarters and the medical post were actually located in Villa Hartenstein. On 18 September 1944, the headquarters of the Airborne division occupied the villa, and a medical post was set up in the basement in the next few days.
The dioramas depict two important scenes in the Battle of Arnhem. Visitors can see the wretched conditions in which the division’s medical troops had to work and how Urquhart tried to lead his troops in the Perimeter.
